Top Tea Place 2007! It's hard to believe that we've achieved this award less than three years after we opened. A lot of it is down to Rachel's hard work and keen eye for detail - but we also have to thank all of our customers who have helped create the friendly atmosphere that we strive for. We love the stained glass panel the Tea Guild have given us. Now we may have to bash a new hole in a wall to find a permanent home for it. Anyway thanks to everyone who has helped us over the last three years - we are having the web-site re-jigged soon so we can thank you better.

We have always had a policy of not taking bookings and except on a few very busy days we have been able to offer everyone a table at once or within a few minutes. This year for some reason we seem to be getting busier: especially on sunny week-ends. But even busy days start quietly and if you come early- we open at 10.30 - you can be sure to find a table at once

'Strawberry, raspberry or gooseberry jam' is the usual choice we give to go with the scones and clotted cream in our cream teas. I was amused to learn today from a customer born on Merseyside that it's also the first line of a children's skipping song that goes
Strawberry, Raspberry, gooseberry jam: Tell me the name of your young man.
Personally , in my skipping days I favoured 'Dr Foster is a good man, he beats his children all he can...'

It's been a hectic month. Much of it spent with half an eye to the skies wondering how quickly the storm clouds on the horizon would take to reach Ely - usually not very long. Lots of customers have been coming up with interesting and helpful comments - so it seems a shame not to be able to get feedback on the website. We're looking into it and hope to come up with an answer soon.

FAME AT LAST? To our surprise, we find ourselves in a 6 page spread in Motor Boats Monthly (!)- their River Guide to Ely and the Great Ouse: there's a good picture of the house at its prettiest - taken when the wisteria smothered the frontage in a drift of purple - with the caption ' Peacocks Tea Room: for divine cuppas and cake'. It's not such a bad slogan. I rather wish I'd thought of it myself. In fact it's a good little guide to Ely and the River - but unfortunately not available on-line.

At last I've got our new list of teas up and running. Some lovely new flavoured teas from Paris, which I will try and list here shortly. For the time being I'm just getting to grips with the technology of the web-site, so you may have to be patient. Thanks
