Peacocks Tearoom. A traditional English tearoom located in Ely, Cambridgeshire

Welcome to Peacocks. We are a family business: we set up the tea-room in our home overlooking the river nearly ten years ago. Starting in one room, it has now taken over our family kitchen and the hall. So, if it has a homely feel to it there is a good reason for that.

If you haven't visited us before, let me quote from a few of the reviews we have received:

Peacocks is exactly what a tearoom should be.....This is a quintessentially English tearoom on the waterfront at Ely housed in a beautiful old building with a little garden to the front, bedecked in wisteria......Peacocks do tea remarkably well.....Greeted and served with a smile.....Wonderfully mismatched quaint tea cups and saucers.....Fantastic cream tea.....Did I tell you about the chocolate scones which they serve here? Ah! They are to die for.....A perfect Sunday, rain or shine in Ely would be a visit to the cathedral, walk down Cherry Hill through Jubilee Gardens and along the river to the Babylon Gallery. Tea at Peacocks, antiquing at Waterside Antiques rounded off with a browse in Topping and Co Booksellers on Ely High Street.....It is justly considered one of the best tea rooms of England.....Don't dither, just go.

That should give you an idea of what to expect: a homely atmosphere, delicious home-made lunches, a quirky menu, welcoming staff, friendly customers, and the widest choice of teas in the world - no-one else anywhere can offer you teas from every continent. Ely is close to Cambridge and only an hour from London by train.

We are proud that the Tea Guild, in their annual awards in April 2012, again gave us an Award of Excellence, and in 2011 The Times newspaper listed us in their top 5 places to have tea. Country Living magazine has also named us their favourite tearoom, so we have a lot to live up to. We keep looking for ways to improve.

Ely is a sleepy little town with a cathedral (which is meant to make it a city, no?) and has the finest tea rooms in Britain. And I can attest not only to the range of their teas but their quality. It was also the site of the most delicious quiche I have ever tasted. Rachel's salmon and asparagus combo will take a deal of beating.
